Abner Baker Crowell
Abner Baker Crowell was born at Dennis, on Cape Cod, on 23 October 1807, the son of James Crowell and his wife Ruth. His middle name, Baker, was a Cape name, and it came round again when he married.
On 26 October 1833 he married Mary Ann Baker at Dennis. He was twenty-six. She had been born at Yarmouth in December 1817, so she was fifteen. They settled at Yarmouth. In 1850 Abner was there with his household, and that November their son Albertus H. Crowell was born. A daughter, Mary Ellen, later married a Clark.
Abner did not live to see Albertus grow up. He died in July 1854, at forty-six, away from home. His death was entered in the Massachusetts records with the place given as Delaware. He died of cholera on board a vessel lying at the Delaware Breakwater, and as no burial ashore is known he was probably buried at sea. Mary Ann was left a widow at thirty-six with young children, and she lived until 1874.
