Abraham Barrus
Abraham Barrus was born on 11 February 1714, the son of Ebenezer and Elizabeth Barrus of Attleboro, Massachusetts. He lived for many years at Cumberland, the town just over the Rhode Island line, and all nine of his children were born there between 1740 and 1761.
In 1765 he moved his family north to Richmond, in Cheshire County, New Hampshire, a new town in the hills east of the Connecticut River. He was the first settler on Lot 4, Range 11, and built the house his family lived in for more than a century. It was taken down in 1882.
His children were John, born 22 May 1740; Abraham, 2 November 1742; Oliver, 27 February 1744; Sarah, 11 August 1747; Jonathan, 15 March 1750; Nathan, 29 November 1753; Jeremiah, 17 October 1756; Ebenezer, 16 February 1759; and Mary, 19 October 1761.
Sarah married Thomas Crane of Richmond in 1768. Jeremiah served in the Revolution and was at the battles of Bunker Hill, Bennington, Princeton and Trenton; he drew a pension and lived to 94. Abraham Barrus died at Richmond in 1789.
