Abraham Lincoln Robinson
Abraham Lincoln Robinson was born on 24 June 1865 in Kentucky, ten weeks after the assassination of President Abraham Lincoln, whose name he was given. His grave listing names his parents as Richard Price Robinson and Rebecca Elizabeth Thornsbury. Richard was still in the Union army that summer: he served in Company B of the 39th Kentucky Infantry, a Union regiment raised in the mountains of eastern Kentucky, from October 1862 until his discharge at Louisville in September 1865. Richard and Elizabeth Robinson were raised at Laynesville in Floyd County, Kentucky.
On 14 July 1884, in Floyd County, Kentucky, an Abraham L. Robinson, born about 1866, married Rosa Gibson. Abraham's wife Rosa was born on 11 December 1865; her grave listing calls her Rosa Howell. They came west to Arkansas and settled at Oark, in the Ozark hills of northern Johnson County. Their children included Ballard, born in 1891, Leoma in 1897, Arthur Harvey in 1904, Orville in 1907 and Delmar in 1910. A family tree compiled later adds an elder daughter, Elizabeth, called Lizzie, born in August 1885, who married James Riley Cowan of Oark in 1903.
His parents and several of his brothers and sisters went much farther west. In 1911 Richard and Elizabeth Robinson moved to Turlock, in California's San Joaquin Valley, where they died in 1926 and 1927. Abraham stayed at Oark.
Rosa died on 31 March 1951, aged 85. Abraham died on 11 May 1952, aged 86, and was buried beside her in Oark Cemetery. His stone is carved with the Masonic square and compasses.
