Ada Brown
Ada Brown was born on 7 July 1907, in the last months of the Indian Territory, four months before Oklahoma became a state. On 16 May 1927, at 19, she married Alvin C. "Chick" Sires, 21, at Bartlesville.
The couple lived in Madison Township, Washington County, the Sires family's home ground near Ochelata and Ramona. A son, John Wesley, born on 10 May 1928, lived thirteen days. In 1930 they had their son Donald. In 1940 she was Ada E. Sires, 33, with Donald, W. C., Wanda, Billie Joe and a baby girl. In 1950 the family was in Washington Township, Garfield County, and seven children were still at home. She bore ten in all: four sons, one of whom died as a baby, and six daughters.
Chick died in January 1959, and she was a widow for thirty-five years. She died at Ochelata on 12 March 1994, aged 86, and was buried in Ochelata Cemetery. Her stone reads "Our Mother", and under her name, in parentheses, "Aw Thaw Wacee".
