Agniete Coensdr.
Agniete Coensdr. lived at Enkhuizen, a port on the Zuiderzee in North Holland. Her second name is a patronymic, not a surname: it means daughter of Coen, a short form of Coenraet. On 30 November 1608 her banns with Douwe Wiggersz. were entered at Enkhuizen as "Douwe Wichersz en Angniet Coens." She was then living in the Bagijnestraat and he in the Westerstraat.
She is named as mother at the baptisms of seven children in the Reformed church there. Johan came on 12 December 1610, Koen on 31 March 1613 and Stijntje on 22 January 1617. Baeffje followed on 29 July 1618, a second Baeffjen on 22 September 1619 and Sara on 11 May 1621. A Marijtgen baptized on 20 April 1615 to Douwe Wychersz. was probably hers as well, though the clerk wrote the mother as Agniet Thoms dr.
The clerks agree on her father's name in nearly every entry: Coensdr., Coenertsdr., Coenisdr. The 1613 entry calls her "Anna Koents dr." Her second son was named Koen, which was the Dutch custom for naming a son after his mother's father. So her father was a Coen, though nothing else about him has been found. The witness at the 1619 baptism was a Marytje Coensdr., who was probably her sister.
She was dead by 28 August 1638, when her daughter Stijntje, aged twenty-one, registered her banns in Amsterdam and said she had no parents living.
