An Ohio man who preached and farmed on both sides of the Indiana and Illinois line. He was in Franklin County, Ohio in 1849, married to Nancy Jane Hickman and selling her share of her father's estate, and in Clinton Township, Vermillion County, Indiana by the census of February 1850. He is still there in 1860 with Walton, aged three. The war took his eldest son in the autumn of 1863, in Kentucky, and Nancy died the following July. By 1864 he was a licensed minister returning marriages at Newport in Indiana and at Danville across the line in Illinois. On the thirtieth of September 1865 he bought sixty acres in Vermilion County, Illinois for thirteen hundred dollars, most of it on a note due in three and a half months. He never paid it. He died on Christmas Day, twelve weeks later, and was buried at Perrysville beside his wife and his son. The seller sued, and in 1868 the farm was sold at the courthouse door in Danville against his widow, his son Jesse and the administrator of his estate.

Rev Alexander J Geer, born 2 June 1820, died 25 December 1865, marked a veteran. The stone reads 'Aged 45 yrs., 6 mos. & 23 days,' which counts exactly from 2 June 1820 to 25 December 1865. In the same ground: Nancy Jane Hickman Geer, 1824 to 1864, 'Wife of the Rev. Alexander J. Geer,' memorial 36775435, died 6 July 1864 in Vermillion County; and John W Geer, 1843 to 1863, memorial 36775735, 'Son of the Rev. Alexander J. and Nancy Geer. Served in Co. K of the 6th Indiana Cavalry. Died in the service of his country at the age of 19 yrs., 10 M. & 3 D.', died 1 October 1863 at Mount Sterling, Montgomery County, Kentucky.
