The younger children were all born in Arkansas: Harriett C., eight, Manerva E., six, Joseph H., four, and Tilman C., one. Two girls named Clark lived with them, Levina T., seventeen, and Elvera B., nine, both born in Missouri.

His daughter Harriett went to school at Newton College in Newtonia, Missouri, and taught school in Newton and Jasper Counties. In January 1865 she married Peter Fishburn, a Union cavalryman of Jasper County. Their second son was named Tilman, the name of her younger brother.
