Anna Helena Ooms

Born at Lummen in the Belgian province of Limburg about 1762 and died at Munstergeleen, across what became the Dutch border, on 11 January 1852 at the age of ninety. The act calls her a widow and names her parents as Jan Ooms and Maria Ida Goets.

She married a Brands and had at least three children, born in more than one place. Anna Brigitta came at Antwerp about 1784. Herman was born about 1795 at a place the registrar wrote as Assenee. Mathias came at Antwerp again about 1801. Her husband's trade is not recorded, but the eldest son's is, and it explains the whole itinerary: Hermanus Brands was a scharenslijper, a travelling scissors grinder, a man who walked a circuit with a wheel and slept where the work was.

The family stopped moving at Munstergeleen. Two of her sons married there within six weeks of each other in the spring of 1823, Hermanus on 1 March and Mathias on 18 April, and both stayed. Their descendants filled the village registers for the rest of the century. She lived on there another twenty-nine years after those weddings, long enough to see a granddaughter christened with her own name in 1824 and to die ten months before that granddaughter married.
