Anne Francis
Anne Francis married James Kingsbury at Boxford, in Suffolk, on 22 October 1584. The register reads "1584. James Kingsburye & Anne ffrauncis the xxij of October". Her parents are not known. The Kingsbury genealogists of 1905 noted a Francis family at Gifford's Hall in Wickhambrook, Suffolk, but made no link to her.
She and James had at least eight children: James, Henry, John, Sara, Elizabeth, Joseph, Thomas and Alyce. Two baptisms name her as the mother. John was baptised on 25 May 1595 as "Jo: Kingsburye sonne of James Kingsburye & Anna his wyffe", and Sara on 5 May 1597. Her marriage lasted from 1584 until James died in 1622, so Joseph, born about 1601, was almost certainly her son.
In 1616 a will proved in the Prerogative Court of Canterbury left thirty shillings "to Ann, the wife of the said James Kingsbury", the same to her husband, and twenty shillings to each of their children then living. James was then described as of Assington, and the Kingsbury genealogists took him to be her husband.
James made his will on 9 April 1622 and was buried at Boxford on 26 April. When Anne died is not known. A Boxford burial of 13 April 1624 reads only "The widdow Kingsbury was buryed", and it may be hers.
Two of her sons, Henry and John, went to New England, and Joseph very probably went too. He was at Dedham in Massachusetts by 1637.
