Anne Lane
Anne Lane was a daughter of Samuel Lane of New Providence Township, on the Perkiomen Creek in what was then Philadelphia County and is now Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. Her grandfather Edward Lane had bought 2,500 acres on the Perkiomen in 1698 and is called the founder of the settlement there, by an 1895 history of the parish.
Her mother is not known. Her father had a widow named Rebecca when he died in 1771, but the Rambo family genealogy of 2007 thinks it "probable that Samuel Lane was married twice," and that Anne and her brother Edward were children of the first marriage. It calls Rebecca "improbable" as Anne's mother.
She married John Rambo, a yeoman of the neighbouring Providence Township. A deed of 1775 bounds her father's former land "by Land of Peter Rambo," so the farms of the two families touched. The fathers also served the same church. "The fathers, Peter Rambo and Samuel Lane, were wardens and vestrymen in St. James (Episcopal) Church in Perkiomen in 1737-38," the genealogy says. A warden was a lay officer who kept the parish's property and accounts.
She and John had six children: Elizabeth, Ann, Mary, Alice, Rachel and Peter. Peter, the youngest, was born on 1 October 1751.
"Anne died 7 May 1754 and is buried in the St. James Episcopal Churchyard in Perkiomen," the genealogy records. The church stands at Evansburg. It had been built in 1721.
Her husband died four years after her, in the spring of 1758, and his will ordered all six children bound out to other households until they came of age. Her father did not forget them. When he made his will in April 1771 he left a legacy to "my grand Children, which are the Children of John Rambo deceased Viz Ann Todd, Alee Roberts ...". By then her daughter Ann was married to William Todd and her daughter Alice to Edward Roberts.
