Annie Lee Burnett was born on 12 April 1875 in Tennessee. Her son Charles's death certificate gives her birthplace as Nashville. Her mother was Nancy Caroline West, known as 'Buck', of Hardeman County in southwest Tennessee. Her brothers and sisters included Samuel Clifton Burnett, Mary Ann Burnett Jacobs, George Adam Burnett, Grover Cleveland Burnett and Lushios Edmon Burnett.

On 15 May 1891, aged sixteen, she married Thomas Nimrod Craig in Davidson County, the county of Nashville. Their children were Janette Mae 'Nettie' Craig Turner, Charles Thomas Craig, Minnie Leola Craig Clark and James Walter Craig. In 1900 the family was living in Nashville.

They later moved to Columbus, Georgia, where her son James fixed looms in the cotton mills. By 1937 she and Thomas lived at 3530 River Road in Columbus, with their son Charles. That year was the worst of her life. In the spring Thomas hurt his hand in a cotton mill in Atlanta, and he died of blood poisoning at home on 11 May. On 31 December Charles, a World War I veteran, died at the veterans' hospital in Atlanta, aged 43. His death certificate names his mother as Annie Burnett.

She died on 8 January 1947 in Phenix City, Russell County, Alabama, aged 71. Phenix City lies across the Chattahoochee River from Columbus. She is buried beside her husband in Section 9 of Riverdale Cemetery in Columbus. Her flat stone reads 'Annie Lee Craig, Apr 12 1875, Jan 8 1947'.
