Benjamin Crispe

He was a proprietor of Watertown, Massachusetts, by 1636 or 1637, and was admitted a freeman on 6 May 1646. He was a mason by trade. By his wife Bridget he had Elizabeth, born 8 January 1636/7, who married George Lawrence; Mary, born 20 May 1638; Jonathan, born 29 January 1639/40; Eleazer, born 14 January 1641/2; Mehitabel, born 21 January 1645/6; and Zachariah.
In 1666 he and Bridget sold their Watertown house and ninety two acres to Thomas Boyden of Groton, and moved to Groton. His son Jonathan was one of the early proprietors there. Jonathan died young, and his father administered his estate on 25 October 1680.
By 1681 he was back at Watertown. That year the selectmen chose him to keep the meeting house and the pound, where stray animals were held. His son Zachariah was impressed as a soldier about 1673. He married a second wife, Joanna, the widow of William Longley of Groton. His death is not recorded.
