Catherine Curran was born in Ireland about 1823 or 1824, by the age on her gravestone. She was very probably the Kate Curran who married John Noonan at Kanturk, County Cork, on 10 March 1845, with a John Curran standing as witness. John Neenan landed in America in July 1847, and the couple was in Ontario County, New York, by the early 1850s.

She bore nine children between about 1851 and 1867, first at West Bloomfield and then on the family land at East Bloomfield. Her husband died in August 1872, when the youngest, William, was five. She was widowed at about forty-nine and lived another twenty-four years.

She died at East Bloomfield on Saturday 11 April 1896, aged seventy-two. Her funeral was held at St. Bridget's Church two days later, and she is buried in its cemetery under a stone that gives both her names. Eight of her children survived her. A full-resolution studio portrait of her survives.
