Christoph Dotterer
Christoph Heinrich Dotterer was born at Eppingen in the Kraichgau, Baden, on 16 March 1810, and baptised in the evangelical church there two days later. His parents were Heinrich Dotterer, a Bürger und Bauer of Eppingen, and Dorothea Ernst. They did not marry until December 1812, when he was two, but the parish had already entered him and his elder sister under both their names.
He learned linen weaving. In April 1830 he was a journeyman weaver, unmarried and twenty years old, when Franziska Demel of Hilsbach bore his son, Johann Georg. Franziska was the daughter of a sieve maker in the next district. At the baptism on 6 April Christoph came forward "von freien Stücken", of his own free will. He acknowledged himself the father and signed the entry. The witnesses who signed with him were Anton Claibert, a linen weaver of Hilsbach, and Franziska's brother Georg Demel.
On 6 May 1832 he married Franziska in the evangelical church at Eppingen. The act names his parents, and it calls his father "des nach Amerika ausgewanderten hiesigen Bürgers", the local citizen who has emigrated to America. Christoph followed his father across.
Their daughter Katharine was born in 1841. The family settled in Auglaize Township, Paulding County, Ohio, where the cemetery carries the family's name. Franziska died in 1869 and Christoph in 1875. Not all of his family crossed. His sister Susanna married at Karlsruhe in 1837, and his brother Peter Heinrich died there in 1844.
