Coe Finch Young
Born at Barryville on the Delaware in February 1846, son of Isaac Young and Eliza Ann Gardner. He was very probably named for his father's younger brother, Coe F. Young of Honesdale, who rose to run the Delaware and Hudson Canal Company. He married Adaline Adelia Sweezy at Middletown in 1866 and carried the family down out of Orange and Sullivan counties into Wayne County, Pennsylvania. There he farmed in Manchester Township for the rest of his life.
He was a lifelong Republican and for a time prominent in local politics, and his neighbors looked up to him. He died at Braman on April 17, 1910, at sixty-four, of tuberculosis of the lungs that had been with him more than two years. The newspaper called it heart failure. His daughter Jennie married Louis Rauner, and his son Coe Jr. married Margaret Maudsley. Through him run the Young and Gardner lines; through his wife, the Sweezy and Gillett lines.
