Cornelius Bartlebaugh
Cornelius Bartlebaugh was born in Pennsylvania on 3 October 1853. He spent his life in Indiana County.
He married Mahalah Ross, a daughter of James Ross. Their home was at Lochvale in Banks Township. They had married about 1880. Six of their children are known: Frank Leonard, born in 1886; Pearl Bessie, born in 1892, later Mrs. Frampton; Lester O., born in 1895; Curt E., born on 12 February 1897; Ida; and Harry. In 1900 the whole family was counted at Glen Campbell, in the north of the county. By 1910 they were back in Banks Township, with Pearl, Ida, Lester and Curt still at home.
Mahalah died at Lochvale on 3 August 1932, after a week's illness, aged 72. On her death certificate Cornelius is named as her husband, written C. R. Bartlebaugh, and their son Curtis gave the family details.
Cornelius lived eleven more years. In 1940, at about 85, he was living in Green Township, Indiana County, in one household with his son Curt. He died in White Township, Indiana County, on 26 October 1943, aged 90. He and Mahalah share one granite stone in Pine Grove Cemetery. It reads BARTLEBAUGH, CORNELIUS 1853 1943, MAHALAH 1860 1932.
