Cynthia Williams
Cynthia Ann Williams was born in Ohio on 23 June 1827, a daughter of the Rev. Jeremiah S. Williams and Nancy Montgomery, who had married in Gallia County in 1819. Her father was a preacher, and the family moved west into Illinois, to Mason County by the middle 1840s.
At eighteen she married Isaac Shuart Webster at Mason City, on 7 December 1845. The clerk wrote her name Scinthea. Their first son, Edwin, was born the next year. When Isaac went to the California gold fields she took the children back to her father's house in Jersey County, and the census of 1850 found them there with her young brother Jeremiah and her sister Cecilia.
Isaac came home in 1851, and the family moved on: to Washington Township in Ringgold County, Iowa, by 1857, and back to Newburg Township in Pike County, Illinois, by 1864. She had fifteen children between 1846 and 1870, two sets of them twins. Eleven were at home in 1870. Her daughter Lucinda Frances, born in Iowa in 1861, married Walton Geer at Pittsfield in 1879.
In old age she sat for a photographer at Plymouth, a few miles from Augusta, between two younger women in dark dresses with watch chains. She died at Augusta on 10 February 1895, aged sixty-seven. Isaac followed her in December 1897, and they lie under one stone in Augusta Cemetery.
