David Allen Stetzel
David Allen Stetzel was born in Huntington County, Indiana, on 5 February 1862. His grave memorial names his parents as Frederick J. Stetzel and Leah Dumbauld.
He married Minerva Snowden, and they had eight children: Effie Mary in 1885, Pearl Leah in 1887, Cary Ernest in 1890, Benjamin F. in 1894, Emma Fern and Ellen Fay in 1897, Lowell Byron Fredrick in 1900 and William Dale in 1903. When Pearl applied to marry William E. Wohlford on 24 December 1906, her application named her parents as David A. Stetzel, a farmer born and living in Union Township, and Minerva Snowden.
David belonged to the United Brethren church at Zion, in Jackson Township. Its members had buried their dead in the churchyard since before the Civil War, but the cemetery plat was not recorded until 22 August 1899. At that time John M. Flack, William Thorne and David A. Stetzel were the church trustees.
A snapshot of David and Minerva in old age shows them standing side by side against the clapboard wall of a house, he in a light suit and tie and smiling, she in a long dark coat with her hands folded.
David died on 25 April 1949, aged 87, and is buried at Zion Cemetery. Minerva lived until 1955.
