David Sanchez
David Sanchez was born in New Mexico about 1869, the son of parents who were both born in New Mexico. By 1910 he was living at San Luis, in Costilla County, Colorado. San Luis was founded in 1851 by settlers from northern New Mexico, and for generations families moved back and forth between the two territories along the Rio Grande.
In 1910 David was 41 and the head of a household at San Luis. His wife Francisca was 34 and born in Colorado. Their children were Epifanio, 17, Manuelita, 16, Herminda, 12, Esteban, 3, Izau, 1, and Julian, a baby.
The boy Esteban in that household is very probably Estevan Sanchez, born at San Luis on 30 January 1907. By 1920 he was living with his married sister Manuelita and her husband Adrian Valdez, and David and Francisca were not in the household. What became of them is not known.
Estevan later married Emiliana Gonzales and raised a large family at San Luis, Walsenburg and Pueblo. He named a daughter Erma, written Erminda in 1940, after his sister Herminda. His son Maclovio, called Max, became a Catholic deacon in Denver in 1975.
