David Swezy came of the Swezy family of Southold on Long Island, which descends from the immigrant John Swasey. On 13 March 1739/40 he married Elizabeth Clark at Southold, and William Salmon entered the wedding in his private register as "David Swesey & Elesabth Clark." His son's gravestone names him as the father of Capt. David Swezy and the husband of Elizabeth Clark. He later lived in the Precinct of Goshen, in Orange County, New York.

He made his will on 23 July 1778, "being weak in body." To his wife Elizabeth he left his best feather bed with all its furniture, his large chest with drawers, a large looking glass, a warming pan, all the pewter and earthenware, a middle-sized iron pot, a large copper tea kettle, one woollen wheel and two linen wheels. To his son David he left "my mare and saddle, and my tools, an inch auger, and one plough with irons and chains, and a pair of beetle rings and wedges."

To his son Jonathan he left the lands and buildings where he lived, the farming tools, a cow and fifteen sheep, "also my desk and books, entitled Paradise Lost and the Holy War." Paradise Lost was John Milton's poem of 1667. The Holy War was John Bunyan's allegory of 1682. Jonathan was to "provide a good maintainance for my wife." His daughter Elizabeth Satterly had five pounds, and the rest went to his granddaughter Mary Dains. His sons David and Jonathan were executors. The witnesses were Noah Carpenter, blacksmith, Bethiah Aldrig and Mehetable Hallock.

The will was proved on 13 May 1779, so he died between July 1778 and May 1779, at Goshen. His wife survived him.
