Dock P. Mullins
Dock P. Mullins was the father of John Preston Mullins, who was born in Wise County, Virginia, on 20 March 1860 and died at Skeetrock in Dickenson County in November 1933. John's Virginia death certificate names his parents as Dock P. Mullins and Sallie Ann Mullins.
In 1870 the census taker in Walker district of Wise County, Virginia, wrote down a Mullins household that fits this family closely. The head was a man of 37, born in Virginia, whose given name he spelled Dbeton, and with him were Sarah J., 32, and six children: William P., 15, Rozetta, 13, John P., 11, Pernetta A., 8, Tryfannah, 4, and Orrara, 1. John P. is the right age to be John Preston, who later named a daughter of his own Tryphanny. The household is very probably Dock P. and Sallie Ann Mullins with their children, though no record of the time states the link.
If that is the family, Dock was born about 1833 and was raising his children in the Walker district of Wise County in the years after the Civil War, in the hill country that became Dickenson County in 1880. His son John married Sarah Elizabeth Sanders, a Pike County, Kentucky girl, and farmed in Willis district and at Skeetrock for the rest of his life. When and where Dock died is not known.
