The 1850 census of Marion County has her at seventy three, born in Maryland, beside her husband Benjamin at eighty one, and writes her name as Dorothy. The name Dorcas is on the Marion County death register of 1879, which gives the parents of a Jonathan Coogle as Benj. and Dorcas Coogle. That Jonathan was fifty four and born about 1825, and her own son Jonathan married Eleanor Holt in 1823, so the entry is not his.

And a granddaughter carried her name in her own house. Her husband's codicil of 1851 leaves a bed, a bureau and a milk cow to Dorothy R. Coogle, daughter of Jonathan, who *has been living with and working for me nearly all her life*. Dorcas and Dorothy are the same name in that country, so Jonathan named a daughter for his mother and then that daughter grew up in her grandparents' house.

Dorcas is a Bible name, out of the Acts of the Apostles, and it was common among the Protestant settlers of that country in the seventeen hundreds. Her maiden name is not recorded and the register that names her had no column for it.
