Dorothy was the wife of Joshua Fletcher, deacon and first town clerk of Westford, Massachusetts. They married about 1700. The Fletcher genealogy of 1881 calls her Dorothy Hale and says she "was b. in Scotland." No other known source gives her surname or her birthplace.

Her children were born at Chelmsford between 1701 and 1720, in the part of the town that became Westford in 1729. The clerk entered them to "Joshua and Dorithy": Joshua, two Sarahs, Elizabeth, Hannah, Esther, Ephraim, Gershom, Zachariah, Dorothy and Eunice. She buried her daughter Sarah at three months in 1704 and Esther in 1708. Her eldest son Joshua died in 1727 at twenty-six.

Her husband died in October 1732. She lived thirty-eight more years as his widow. She saw her daughters Dorothy and Sarah marry the Parker brothers, Aaron and Samuel, in 1738 and 1739, and she outlived Sarah by twenty-four years.

She died at Westford on 20 August 1770, "in her 92d y." by her gravestone. She was born, then, between August 1678 and August 1679.
