Eardy Simmons was born on Christmas Day, 25 December 1897, in Louisiana. She married Otis Pierce of Kentwood, in Tangipahoa Parish, who was eight years older. Her children's Social Security applications give her maiden name as Simmons, written Eardy on one and Erdie on another.
She raised a family of at least seven in Tangipahoa Parish: Wesley, Wayne, Mary, Esther, Carl, born in 1932, John Fulmer, called Johnny, born in 1934, and Shirley Mae, born on 12 October 1939, when Eardy was forty-one. In 1940 the family was living in Ward Two of the parish.
Otis died at Independence in November 1959. Eardy was a widow for sixteen years. She died on 13 December 1975, twelve days before her seventy-eighth birthday, and was buried beside him in Beulah Church Cemetery near Kentwood. Their double stone reads "Eardy, Dec. 25, 1897, Dec. 13, 1975."
Her son Carl's obituary in 2015 named her as Eardy Simmons Pierce. Her daughter Shirley's obituary in 1994 named her and Otis as Shirley's late parents.
