Edith M. Sarratt
Edith M. Sarratt was born on 23 November 1879, the date on her stone. She was a daughter of A. B. Sarratt and Anna Robertson. On 20 January 1898, at Belvidere in Thayer County, Nebraska, she married Herman Walter Belville. She was 19 and he was 21.
They lived at Hebron. Their daughter Delpha was born in 1899 and their son Orval on 25 August 1901.
On the evening of Friday, 25 October 1901, Herman went out in a storm to do his chores in the barn, and Edith went to bed and fell asleep. About ten o'clock she woke and found he had not come back. She woke a woman relative who was staying with them, and the two went out looking for him. They found him lying about halfway between the house and the barn. He had been struck on the head by lightning, and one of his shoes had been torn off. Edith was 21, with a two year old daughter and a baby of two months.
On 16 July 1904, at McCook, Nebraska, she married Herman Baumgart, a son of Felix Baumgart and Mary Limback. They had a son, Kenneth. In 1910 they lived in Garfield precinct, Lancaster County, near Lincoln, with Delpha and Orval, and in 1920 in Lincoln itself.
Edith died at her home, 239 South Eleventh Street in Lincoln, at one in the afternoon on Sunday, 25 February 1923. The Nebraska State Journal gave her age as forty two. Besides her husband she left her daughter, Mrs. Delphina Hilliard of Independence, Missouri, and two sons, "Orvil of Independence, and Kenneth, who lives at home." She is buried in Wyuka Cemetery in Lincoln, under a stone she shares with Herman F. Baumgart, who died in 1942.
