Edward Stevens
Of Plymouth, married there on 23 December 1708 to Mary Churchill, a granddaughter of John Churchill the Plymouth immigrant by his son Eliezer. Seven children are entered to them in the Plymouth records between 1710 and 1723, and the eldest of those, Mary, married Joseph Cole.
He is known mainly through other people's records, the ordinary condition of a man whose family never had its own genealogy printed. His children appear in the Churchill book because their mother was a Churchill. He himself appears again half a century later in a Cole deed: in May 1757 Joseph and Mary Cole deeded land to Edward Stephens of Plymouth, which is either this man in old age or the son of the same name born in 1721, and either way it shows the two families still in contact thirty years after the marriage.
He was a son of Edward Stephens of Marshfield, who was living there in 1665 and had children Edward, William, Elizabeth and Patience. Patience married John Phillips.
Mary Churchill was alive in 1723, when the last of their children was born. He probably married again in 1729, to Mercy, widow of Joseph Sylvester and daughter of Elisha Holmes. His birth and his death are not known.
