Edy Wheeler

Children include Sarah

Edy Wheeler was the wife of Isham Wheeler of Big Brier Creek, Warren County, Georgia. Her maiden name, her birth and her death are not known. Everything known of her comes from her husband's will of 3 December 1839, which calls her "my wife Edy Wheeler."

She was the mother of at least six children, probably all of them: John and David Wheeler, Sarah, who married David Evans, Elizabeth, who married Hugh Evans, and Dilly and Mary, still unmarried in 1839. Her daughter Sarah was born about 1803, so Edy was probably born before about 1785.

Her husband's will looked after her first. Before any married child received more, the executor was to pay her the same portion the married children had already had: "one hundred dollars, one feather bed & furniture & two cows or the worth of two cows." She then held the home land for the rest of her life, apart from the hundred acres set off for each son and the three acres where her husband's sisters lived. At her death it was to pass to her four daughters. Her share of the sale of his personal property was equal to each child's.

The will makes "my brother in law Jesse Evans" executor. If that meant her own brother, she was born an Evans, and her daughters' marriages to David and Hugh Evans were marriages into her own kin. The will does not say, and nothing else is known that would settle it.

Her husband died between 3 December 1839 and 6 January 1840. Whether she was still living when he died, and where she was buried, is not known.
