Eliza Jane Ankrom was born on 26 April 1869 in Missouri, by her gravestone and the 1950 census. On 12 August 1888, in Polk County, Missouri, she married William L. McCaskey, two years older, and their son John Franklin was born at Polk, Polk County, Missouri, on 14 December 1898. By 1905 the family had moved to northwest Oklahoma, and Bert Cecil was born on 18 July that year.

Her husband died on 5 February 1913, when Bert was seven. From then on Eliza Jane is the parent named on Bert's school census entries in the Longdale district of Blaine County and in Major County: E. J. McCaskey, and once Janey. She never remarried and kept the McCaskey name for the thirty seven years she outlived him.

In April 1950 she was living in Dane Township, Major County, aged 81. She died on 2 November 1950 and was buried in Bethel Cemetery at Fairview. Her stone reads "MOTHER. ELIZA JANE McCASKEY. APR. 26, 1869. NOV. 2, 1950." and along its foot: "GOD SHALL BE MY HOPE AND MY GUIDE."
