Elizabeth Autrey
Elizabeth Autrey was born on 27 January 1771 and died in 1847, according to the family record of the old Lambeth Hopkins Bible. She married John Hopkins, and their son Lambeth was born on 24 September 1800. Her husband died in Bedford County, Tennessee, in December 1814, and she lived another thirty-three years.
Her surname comes from the Daughters of the American Revolution lineage and the family genealogy of 1959. Her parents are not known. The Autreys were her father-in-law's neighbours on the Oconee River in Greene County, Georgia. Absalom Autrey witnessed Lambeth Hopkins's deed there in 1792, and Jacob "Aubery," or Autry, was an executor of his will in 1798. Four Autrey men held land in Greene County between 1784 and 1793: Jacob, with his wife Elizabeth, on Town Creek; Capt. Alexander, also with a wife Elizabeth, on Fishing Creek; Absalom, with his wife Lucy, on Sandy Creek; and John. One of them was very probably her father, Jacob the likeliest, but no record names her.
