Elizabeth Baker
Nearly everything known of her comes from her husband's will.
Jonathan Baker made it at Yarmouth on 6 August 1753, being very sick and weak in body, and gave her all his lands and meadows, his house, and every moveable he had, out of doors and within, to be her own for her life, "to have and to hold or to Sell and Give good Conveyance to any man who she pleases for her benefit and comfort." He made her his sole executor. Only one acre passed over her head at once, to their son Isaac, on which his house already stood; everything else waited for her death.
He died within seven months. The will was proved at Barnstable on 5 March 1754 and "presented for Probate by Elizabeth Baker the Executrix therein named." The appraisers valued the estate at fifty four pounds sixteen shillings and sixpence, of which forty three was the land, and she swore to the inventory at Yarmouth on 12 March.
Her own surname is not known. The will names her four times and never once names anybody she came from.
