Elizabeth (Hasson, Lodington, Grant)

Wife of John Hasson of Cadney in Lincolnshire, and the mother of the Thomas Hassen whose son Edward went to Rowley in Massachusetts. Her maiden name is not recorded anywhere.

She bore at least six children at Cadney between 1573 and 1589 and buried four of them. John Hasson was buried on 14 April 1591, and she remarried three and a half years later: Thomas Lodington at Cadney on 24 November 1594. He was buried, entered as a labourer, on 25 October 1604. Seven months after that, on 23 June 1605, the same register married Petrus Grant et Elizabetha Lodington. She buried Peter Grant too, and the Cadney burials for 1630 have her as Elizabeth Grant widdow, 5 February 1630/1.

Her grandson Edward was sixteen when she died and had probably known her all his life, since she was in the same parish for the whole of it. Tracy Elliot Hazen counted her among the grounds for identifying the Rowley emigrant with the Cadney boy: Edward named his first daughter Elizabeth, for his mother and for the grandmother who lived until he was sixteen.
