Elizabeth Hyde
Elizabeth Hyde was born on 4 September 1659, a daughter of Jonathan Hyde of Cambridge Village and his first wife, Mary French. Her father had come from London on the ship Jonathan in 1639 as a boy of about thirteen. He was a sergeant, a freeman from 1663 and later a selectman of Newton. Her mother was a daughter of Lieut. William French of Billerica. The Newton history of 1854 says her father "had twenty-one children, fourteen by Mary French, dr. of William French, of Billerica, and seven by Mary Rediat."
Her mother died at Cambridge on 27 May 1672, when Elizabeth was twelve. Her father married Mary Rediat the following January.
In 1685 Elizabeth married Isaac Williams, the eldest son of Capt. Isaac Williams, a neighbour whose farm lay in the west part of the same village. She was twenty five. Their children came almost every year: Isaac in November 1686, Jonathan in November 1687, Mary in 1688, John in April 1689, William in September 1690, Ebenezer in October 1691, Samuel in February 1693, Martha in September 1694, Daniel in October 1695 and Elizabeth in September 1697.
She died on 26 June 1699, aged thirty nine. Her eldest was twelve and her youngest not yet two. Her husband married twice more and lived until 1739.
The Hyde and Williams families were close neighbours and married into each other more than once. Her brother Joseph married Mary Williams, her husband's half-sister. Two of her husband's sisters, Hannah and Elizabeth, married John and Jonathan Hyde, sons of Job Hyde.
