Elizabeth Jane Fulwider
Elizabeth Jane Fulwider was born in Virginia about 1830. Her son Wilbur's 1905 biography says her parents were of Irish extraction. On 4 December 1845, in Cedar County, Iowa, she married Daniel Bolton, also a Virginian. She was about fifteen.
Her first children were born in Iowa: Nancy Harriet in 1848 and Zenas in 1851. A daughter, Ally Ann, died as a baby in 1852. Then the family crossed the plains to Oregon with ox teams, and her daughter Ellen was born in Utah in 1853 along the way. They settled in the Willamette valley and then at The Dalles.
In Oregon she had more children: Alvin, Simeon, Wilbur, Grifford Virgil, Edward Homer, Daniel Mitchell and Emanuel. Alvin, Edward and Emanuel died young. In 1870 she was keeping house for a family of nine in the Hood River country of Wasco County.
She was widowed in November 1887 and lived ten more years. She died at The Dalles in 1897. Her son Zenas's death certificate in 1918 gave her maiden name as Elizabeth Fulliader and her birthplace as Virginia.
