Emelia Roeber
Emelia was the wife of August Roeber. Her maiden name is not known. Their daughter, also Emelia, was born in New York City on 17 November 1859; at her wedding she is Amalie. The daughter married Henry W. Dassler at Newark, New Jersey, on 9 August 1881, and raised eleven children in New Rochelle. When the daughter died in October 1935, her obituary called her "a daughter of the late August and Emelia" Roeber, so the mother had died by then. Nothing more about her has been found.
In June 1880 her husband, very probably the August Roeber who kept a grocery at Newark, New Jersey, was living with a wife named Dora, fifty and born in Germany, and with three daughters born in New York: Ammelia, twenty-two, Hulda, thirteen, and Lydia, ten. If Dora was Emelia under another of her names, as a German Dorothea Emilie could be, she was born about 1830. If she was a second wife, Emelia had died or left the family by 1880. The records found do not settle which.
