Enos Mead
Enos Mead was born 30 June 1764 at Crum Elbow in Dutchess County and settled at Nassau in Rensselaer County, where the 1800 census enumerates him two households from Richard Valentine, his wife's people. His will, written 21 September 1829 and proved 30 December that year, names his wife Martha and eleven children, the daughters by their married names, "Zada Brown" among them: a father recording exactly where each child had landed. He died 21 December 1829.
His father was Jonathan Mead, who moved from Dutchess County to Philipstown, later Nassau, on the Van Rensselaer manor of Rensselaerwyck, and was there "in 1776 when his son Enos was twelve years old." His mother was Sarah. Jonathan held the farm on lease from Stephen Van Rensselaer, "to Jonathan and his heirs and assigns forever," and quitclaimed the Mead farm to Enos, which is how it came to him. A family history printed in 1972 numbers his son as "Ezra Mead (Enos, Jonathan)."
