Esther Harrison
Esther, wife of Daniel W. Harrison and mother of Lois, is named in exactly one document: the Oswego County deed of July 1822, where she appears four times in the acknowledgment, "the said Esther, wife of the said Daniel W. Harrison ... being by me examined separate and apart from her said husband," releasing her dower in the land the family was leaving. A wife of that era reaches a deed in one way only, and this is it.
The 1820 census of New Haven gives her an age without giving her a name. She is the one woman of twenty-six to forty-five in her husband's household, which puts her birth between 1775 and 1794, and since Lois was born in 1806 she was married by 1805 and so born by about 1789. She was somewhere in her thirties or forties when she stood in front of that clerk.
Her end is dated from a distance, and conditionally. A Daniel W. Harrison sold a lot at Kingsville in Ohio in March 1847 in the first person singular, with no wife releasing dower, on a page where the deed above it has exactly that. If he is her husband, she was dead by then. Her maiden name is nowhere.
