Frank Slanczka
Frank Slanczka was born in Poland on 25 November 1883. His gravestone gives his middle initial as S., and so does the Social Security application of his son Lewis.
He married Louise K. Maslyk, who was also born in Poland. Her own given name was Ludwika Kathryn, and in America she went by Louise. Their eldest child, Rose, was born in Ohio about 1913, and her own marriage record of 1933 gives her birthplace as Cleveland. By 1915 the family had moved to Clymer, a coal town in Indiana County, Pennsylvania. Every child after Rose was born there or close by. Lewis's birthplace is given as Buck Run, near Clymer.
In 1930 the family was living in Green Township, Indiana County. Frank was about 46, and the household held Louise and seven children: Rose, Telford, Louis, John, Frank, Walter and Joseph. Helen, the youngest, was born in 1930.
Frank died at Indiana, Pennsylvania, on 27 August 1936, aged 52. He was buried in Saint Bernard's Cemetery at Indiana, Section D, Row 11. His stone is a small granite marker carved with a cross and roses and the words FRANK S. SLANCZKA, 1883, 1936.
Louise outlived him by nearly 37 years. Several of their sons settled in Lorain County, Ohio, and by the end of her life she was living there too. She died at Amherst, Ohio, in 1973 and is buried at Elyria.
