George Elmer Marshall
George Elmer Marshall was born on 28 January 1867 at Wayne, a village on the Michigan Central line west of Detroit in Wayne County. His parents are given as Alfred W. Marshall and Mary Lewis; the link is unproved.
In 1892 he married Lena Seig, a girl of seventeen. They had eight children: Elmer Almerin (1894-1980), George Alfred (1895-1964), Albert Walter (1897-1954), Elgin Alonzo, called Lon (1899-1971), Lee Seig (1900-1946), who carried his mother's maiden name, Bessie Mae (1905-1964), Thomas Edward (1907-1955) and Grace Ethel (1915-1942). The family settled at Flint, where the sons found work in the auto plants, and lived at 250 East Hobson Avenue, a house they shared with their daughter Bessie and her husband Russell Little.
George died at the East Hobson Avenue house on Wednesday, 17 April 1935, aged sixty-eight. The Flint Daily Journal carried the notice two days later. The funeral was at two o'clock on the twentieth from the Reigle Funeral Home, with Elder Theo Bush of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints officiating, and burial in Gracelawn Cemetery. Surviving him were his wife; six sons, George, Thomas and Alonzo of Detroit and Walter, Elmer and Lee of Flint; two daughters, Mrs. Russell Little of Flint and Grace at home; and nineteen grandchildren. Lena outlived him by twenty-one years.
