George Washington Dale

George Washington Dale was born in Kentucky in about 1829. A compiled family tree gives 6 May 1829 at Bath County. He was twenty one in 1850.

In March 1849, according to the same tree, he married Elizabeth Jones in Bath County. Their daughter Mary Jane was born that autumn. The 1850 census finds the three of them in neighbouring Montgomery County: George W., twenty one, Elizabeth, twenty one, and Mary Jane, nine months.

A second daughter, Permelia, was born in Bath County in 1854. The county's birth register names her parents as G. W. Dale and Elizabeth Jones. More daughters followed, among them Eliza Rice and Louisiana Ragland.

Before 1860 the family moved to Texas. The 1860 census finds George, thirty one, in Montgomery County, Texas, north of Houston. With him were a wife recorded only as C., thirty three, born in Kentucky, and four daughters: Mary Jane, ten, and three younger girls. Elizabeth had probably died. A compiled tree names his second wife Clerinda Clayton.

The same tree gives his death at Houston on 30 July 1866. Five months later, on 24 December 1866, Mary Jane married David R. Myres in Washington County, Texas. His daughter Louisiana later lived at Cleburne, in Johnson County, where the Myres family farmed.
