Georgia Farley
Georgia Farley was born on 5 June 1926. Her gravestone gives the day, and her obituary gives her age at death as 83. Her maiden name does not appear in either.
She had a sister, Elaine, who married a Holbrook and died before her.
She married Nicholas Warren Farley of Kings Park, a Navy veteran of the Second World War and the son of a nurse at Kings Park State Hospital. They had six children: Cathi, Susan, Caren, Teresa, Nicholas and Laura. Cathi, the eldest named, married a Betancourt. Susan married Gary Walsh, Caren married Edward Skiseng, Teresa married Steven Rooney, Nicholas married Theresa, and Laura married Thomas Mars. The family lived at Kings Park and later at Smithtown, on the north shore of Long Island.
Georgia Farley died on 29 March 2010 at Smithtown, aged 83. Newsday printed her death notice two days later. It called her the "Beloved wife of Nicholas" and said she would "be missed by many grandchildren & great grandchildren."
The Branch Funeral Home on East Main Street in Smithtown held the visiting hours, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 on the Wednesday. Her funeral service was held at 8:45 the next morning at St. Paraskevi Greek Orthodox Church. St. Paraskevi is the Greek Orthodox parish at Greenlawn, a few miles west of Kings Park. Her husband was a Roman Catholic, and his own funeral three years later was a Mass at St. Patrick's in Smithtown.
She was buried at Calverton National Cemetery in Suffolk County, the national cemetery for veterans on eastern Long Island. The wife of a veteran may be buried in his grave, and Georgia was buried first, in Section 34, Site 2658. Her name went on the front of a white marble government stone, under a cross: GEORGIA FARLEY, JUN 5 1926, MAR 29 2010. Nicholas was buried in the same grave after his death in October 2013, and his name is cut on the other face of the stone.
