Green Berry Fuller

b. 1829 · South Carolina
Born 1829, South Carolina
Children include John

Green Berry Fuller was born in South Carolina about 1829, probably in Laurens County, where his son later said he was born. The records spell his name Granbury, Granberry and Green Berry.

On the census of 1850 Granbury Fuller, 20, a farmer, was living in Laurens County with Edney, 15. She was Edna Nelson, his young wife. Next door lived a Nelson household: Nancy Nelson, 55, who owned land worth $250, with Elizabeth, 24, and Beaufort T., 21, a farmer. Whether Nancy was Edna's mother no record says.

Their first son, John, was born in November 1850. In June 1860 Green Berry, 33, was farming near the Waterloo post office in the south of Laurens County. He owned land worth $650 and other property worth $500. With him and Edney were their children John, 9, William, 7, Maria, 6, Nancy, 4, and Elihu, 1. Two boys lived with them as well: William Pinson, 13, and John M. Nelson, 16, both at school. John M. Nelson was probably one of Edna's own family.

Green Berry died before June 1880, when Edney was keeping house at Waterloo as a widow. When their son John died in 1923, his own son gave the father's name as Granbury Fuller, born in Laurens County.
