Hannah Gorham
Hannah Gorham was born on 1 September 1781, the third child of Matthias Gorham and Dorcas Crowell of Yarmouth, on Cape Cod. Her father was a sea captain and farmer who had served as a private in the Revolution. The Gorham family genealogy carries her father's line back to Capt. John Gorham, who died in King Philip's War, and his wife Desire, a daughter of John Howland and Elizabeth Tilley of the Mayflower.
In April 1788, when she was six, the family moved to Westminster, Vermont. Other Cape Cod families followed, among them the Clarks of Harwich in 1797. On 22 October 1801, at Westminster, she married Barnabas Clark, son of Barnabas Clark and Mehitable Hall. Their children were born at Westminster, beginning with Mehitable in 1802.
Her father died at Westminster in March 1820. Hannah died seven weeks later, on 8 May 1820, aged thirty-eight. She is buried in the Westminster West Cemetery. Her husband married again and died in 1824.
