Hannah Potter
She married twice, twenty six years apart, and the surname the Wallingford clerk gave her in 1676 was her first husband's.
She was a daughter of John Potter of New Haven, who died in 1643 and left her small. In July 1646 her mother and her stepfather Edward Parker came into court, gave up her father's house and land to her two brothers, and settled on her "a hejfer of a yeare old," to be delivered at once "& so to be improved as a stock for her." A yearling heifer given to a girl was a portion, not a present. It would calve and the calves were hers.
On 3 December 1650 she married Samuel Blakeslee of New Haven. He died on 17 May 1672, and four and a half years later, on 21 December 1676, she married Henry Brooks at Wallingford before William Jones, justice of the peace. The town book calls her Hannah Blakely, which is what she had been called for twenty six years.
Thomas was born to them on 27 March 1679 and is her only recorded child by Brooks. She was somewhere in her middle forties. Her birth is not recorded, but it fell before her father's death in 1643.
She died on 7 November 1723, ten years after Henry Brooks.
