He was a farmer at Gahry, a Sorbian village of the Cottbus country about eight kilometres south west of Forst, whose people went to church at Komptendorf. He held land of his own: the parish entered him as a Bauer, a full farmer, which his son never became.

He died at one in the night on 10 April 1838, of an inflammation of the chest, at forty two. His brother reported the death, and he was buried at Gahry two days later, toward evening, with a full funeral sermon. He left a widow and five children, four daughters and a son, every one of them under age. The son was Georg, about eight years old.

The eldest daughter, Anna, married at Komptendorf that November, seven months after the funeral. She was nineteen and married with her guardian's consent, and the clerk wrote her down as the eldest daughter left behind by the late Hans Bogott, farmer at Gahre. Her husband, Johann Gottlieb Sommer, was a Gahry man too.

Nineteen years later his son, by then a hired farm servant at Gross Lieskow, married there and was entered as the surviving legitimate son of the late Hans Bogott in Gahre. The farm had not come down to him. His wife's name is not known.
