Ichabod Miller was born in 1703 and died in 1793, at ninety. His family is set out in Abiel Brown's Genealogical History, with Short Sketches and Family Records, of the Early Settlers of West Simsbury, now Canton, Conn., published in 1856.

About 1743 he and a Mr. Eliot "had the charge of the works erected in Simsbury for the manufacture of steel". Brown took this from Phelps's History of Simsbury.

He married Sarah Holcomb, who was thirteen years younger. About 1746 the couple "removed from the Old Parish to West Simsbury". The Old Parish was the first settled part of Simsbury, and West Simsbury its western parish, later the town of Canton. "They settled on the farm that had been left by Mr. Ephraim and Mrs. Mercy Buel, both deceased. The farm was adjoining Thomas Barber's."

His blacksmith's shop stood "a few rods north of the saw mill lately erected by Humphrey & Brown". A rod is sixteen and a half feet. "He occupied this place probably from twelve to sixteen years, and then removed to what is now West Granby, where he died. His remains were brought to Canton and interred in the North burying-ground."

"There were nine children in this Miller family." Dudley was born in 1742, Aaron in 1744, Samuel in 1746, Sarah in 1749, Mehittabel in 1752, Sabra in 1755, Ruth in 1757, Moses in 1760 and a second Dudley in 1762. Aaron "removed to Vermont" and Samuel to the State of New York. Moses married Ruth, a daughter of Richard Case, and moved to Hudson, Ohio. Sarah married John Merritt and Sabra married George Adams.

Two of the sons came to early ends. The first Dudley died at Havana in 1762, aged twenty. The second Dudley was executed in New York in 1787, at twenty-five. His father was then eighty-four. Sarah outlived Ichabod by seven years and died in 1800.
