Ida Lanier
Ida Lanier was born in Bladen County, North Carolina, on 14 April 1789, by a family record. Bladen lies on the Cape Fear River, and Laniers were among the families who left that country for the Georgia coast in the years after the Revolution. She married Edmund Hester in Effingham County, Georgia, on 9 September 1806, at seventeen. The clerk wrote her name Idy.
Her son Stephen was born in Effingham in February 1815. Soon after, she went west with her husband into Mississippi Territory. They were in Greene County in 1816, in the White Sand country of Lawrence County by 1820, and by the end of that decade in a Methodist settlement in the pine woods above the coast. By 1840 the family was in Hancock County, near the Fayards, whose daughter Delphine her son had married.
She died in Harrison County on 9 February 1851, at sixty-one, by the same family record. Her husband outlived her twenty years. Her maiden name went down in her son's family: Stephen named the boy born in Harrison County in 1859 Rufus Lanier Hester.
