Ida Pauline Thomas
Ida Pauline Thomas was born at Camargo, Douglas County, Illinois, on 17 November 1857.
In April 1873, at fifteen, she married Josephus S. Slaughter. The licence was taken out in Hendricks County, Indiana. Their first child, Olive Jane, was born in October 1874. James Angus followed in 1879, Sarah Agnes in 1881 and Bertha Elizabeth in 1884.
Her daughter Olive married James Bullock in Douglas County, Illinois, in October 1891, and the marriage record names Olive's parents as Joseph S. Slaughter and Ida Thomas. Olive's own death certificate, in 1962, names them as Josephus Slaughter and Ida Thomas.
The family moved to Kansas about 1897 and settled in the mining town of Galena. Ida lived at 905 Elm Street. She was ill for several weeks in the autumn of 1921 and died at home at 10:35 in the morning of 21 October, aged sixty three, of paralysis. The Galena Evening Times put her death on its front page that afternoon under the headline "Mrs. Slaughter Dies". It named her husband, J. S. Slaughter, her daughters Mrs. W. H. Slover of Oswego and Mrs. James Bullock of Galena, and her son Angus Slaughter of Treece, Kansas. The funeral was held at the house on Sunday afternoon, and she was buried in Oak Hill Cemetery. Josephus outlived her by eighteen years and was buried beside her in 1939.
