Ingri Iversdatter

b. 1789
Born 1789
Children include Anders

Ingri Iversdatter was born about 1789. Iversdatter is a patronymic, Iver's daughter, and not a family name; a Norwegian wife of her time kept her own. She was living on the farm Nordbye in Hedalen, a side valley of Sør-Aurdal parish in Valdres, when she married.

On 27 March 1808 she married Elling Andersen, a bachelor who owned the farm Aspeholt. The clerk wrote his name Ellen, and hers Ingri Iversd. She was about nineteen. Her children were baptised at Hedalen: Sigrie in 1808, Karen in 1811, Anders in 1814, a second Anders on 25 June 1815 after the first had died, and Sigri about 1821.

Elling died in March 1825, at forty-one. That October, on the 10th, "Ingri of Aspehold", aged thirty-six, married Ole Gundersen of Bergen. Ole was farming Aspeholt by 1826 and was still there in 1829, so Ingri stayed on the farm and her children grew up there. Her son Anders later held Aspeholt as gårdmann, and in 1861 he left Hedalen for America with his wife and children.

Her own parents are not known. Several households in Valdres held an Ingri Iversdatter of her age in 1801, at Vang and in Slidre, and none of them is tied to Nordbye.
