Irene C. Short
Irene C. Short was born on 3 August 1888 at Corsicana, Navarro County, Texas. Her parents were Canadians. Her father, John B. Short, came from Belleville, Ontario, and her mother, Matilda C. Goodrow, from Chatham, Ontario. Corsicana was a cotton town south of Dallas, and the family did not stay there.
By 1900 the Shorts were in Midland, Michigan. Irene was eleven, living with her parents and her sisters Amey L. and Pearl. The family moved on to Saginaw, twenty miles down the river.
At Saginaw on 6 January 1909 she married J. Raymond Pinnell, a West Virginian twelve years older. She was twenty. Their first child, John Hart Pinnell, was born a year later and died at seven weeks. Catherine M. was born in 1912, John Raymond Jr. in 1915, James E. in 1917 and Lee Hart in 1920.
Her daughter Catherine died in February 1938 at twenty five. Her husband died in November 1939. In the 1940 census Irene was a widow in Saginaw, with her son James at home.
Her mother, Matilda Short, died in Saginaw on 1 February 1946. Irene died five weeks later, on 5 March 1946, aged fifty seven. Her death certificate gives her birth at Corsicana and her parents as John B. Short and Mathilda C. Goodrow. She was buried at Forest Lawn Cemetery, Saginaw, in Section 1, Lot 1716, beside her husband and near her father. Her stone reads "MOTHER / IRENE C. PINNELL / 1888 1946".
