Isaac Pryor
Isaac Pryor farmed about seventy five acres in Elk Township, Noble County, Ohio, on the north west quarter and the south part of the north west quarter of Sections 32 and 33, Range Seven. He made his will there in 1852, and it was proved at Caldwell on 16 February 1860.
The will leaves the farm to his wife in lieu of her dower, for as long as she remains his widow, along with everything else he owned, and then divides what is left among five children and one grandchild: Matilda Scott, Margaret Powell, John Prior, Mariah Jane Hesson and Howard R. Pryor, with his grandson Isaac Koon taking a sixth share on the condition that he stay and look after the widow until he came of age. If Koon left, the estate went to the five children alone.
Mariah Jane Hesson is the daughter who had married John Hesson in Belmont County in 1835 and gone down to Guyan Township in Gallia County. She is entered as Moriah by the 1880 census and as Jane, Moriah and Myra by three of her own children's death returns, and in her father's will she is Mariah Jane.
His wife is the one person in the household the will does not name. He calls her only his beloved wife, which is what a man writes when everyone in the room already knows.
